Overblown and stupefyingly dull, this epic folly from Roland Emmerich (Independence Day) might not sink Warner Brothers, but with any luck it will send the prehistoric adventure genre the way of the woolly mammoth. Apparently deluded that throwing money at the screen is the same as making a movie, the director chooses empty spectacle over a coherent story, spinning a ludicrous tale about a small band of proto-European hunter-gatherers who ally with African tribesmen against a predatory Asiatic theocracy. CGI-generated creatures like a saber-toothed tiger are risible, and two singularly uncharismatic actors--Steven Strait and Camilla Belle--are cast as the lovers destined to save mankind. PG-13, 108 min.
