Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay
Capsule by J.R. Jones
From the Chicago Reader
After causing a ruckus aboard a flight to Amsterdam, the title stoners (John Cho and Kal Penn) are detained as terror suspects and tossed into Gitmo. Poking fun at the American gulag turns out to be easier in theory than in practice, and writer-directors Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg wisely move on at the earliest opportunity, dispatching their buzzed heroes on a Florida-to-Texas road trip to clear their names. As in Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (2004), the jokes all revolve around weed, stereotypes, and Neil Patrick Harris; the stereotype stuff is by far the funniest (Jon Reep as a dirt farmer whose ramshackle house conceals swank cocktail decor, Rob Corddry as a racist federal agent who tries to bribe a black witness with a can of grape soda). R, 102 min.
