What Happens in Vegas

Capsule by Andrea Gronvall

From the Chicago Reader

The felicitous pairing of Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher overcomes the mechanical setup of this amiable screwball comedy about mismatched Manhattanites who wed in Las Vegas following a drunken first date. She's a detail-obsessed Wall Street trader on the rebound; he's just been fired from his family's furnishings business. Annulment seems like a good idea the morning after, but complications bring them before a New York judge (Dennis Miller) who orders them to make good on their vows for a six-month trial period. That's when the picture takes off, as the newlyweds lob insults and furiously scheme to break the tie that binds. Tom Vaughan (Starter for Ten) directed, from Dana Fox's madcap screenplay. With Dennis Farina and Queen Latifah. PG-13, 99 min.
