Lord Jim
Joseph Conrad's elaborately structured fiction poses monstrous problems for film adaptation, and the solution proposed here by Richard Brooks--plodding literal-mindedness--doesn't come close to working. Still, it is a handsome film (photographed by Freddie Young) with an appealing population, including Peter O'Toole, James Mason, Paul Lukas, Jack Hawkins, Akim Tamiroff, and Daliah Lavi (1964). |
