There's No Business Like Show Business
A low point in the history of the Hollywood musical (1954). Two vaudevillians (Ethel Merman and Dan Dailey) spawn a family of showbiz types (Donald O'Connor, Johnny Ray, Mitzi Gaynor) who aren't very entertaining. The film has some fairly good Irving Berlin tunes, but the high point is Marilyn Monroe's "Heat Wave." Walter Lang directed in the best tradition of 20th Century Fox musical mediocrity. 117 min. |
